ok that is fine now to flash it you need a rs232 to serial to TTL cable like here RS232 232 Serial Port to TTL Transfer Module MAX3232 on eBay, also, Other Electrical Test Eqpt, Electrical Test Equipment, Business, Office Industrial (end time 24-May-09 17:14:51 BST)
i recommend you do your research first however and look here The Layman's guide to flashing Ambit Cable Modems

i recommend some computer knowledge

For that modem, you will be needing an SPI Programmer (and Test Clip if you can't solder, the clip locks onto the chip so you can read/write to it).

sorry 2 ask but what are you trying 2 do ?? as you dont just use a RS232 to flash a modem ???

you need this

-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPI-FLASH-PROGRAMMER-AMBIT-256-AMBIT-300-MX25L-UK_W0QQitemZ120583537406QQihZ002QQcategoryZ294QQss PageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You can only use RS232 after the modem has been modified with the SPI programmer. You need to solder a header on some versions of the 256.

No because it has a TSOP and not an SPI chip. An RS232 adapter will work on Ambit 255s.
