Hi,

When you want to sniff mac addresses you need to have your laptop/pc connected directly to the modem.

I was wondering if you could leave the modem attached to the wireless router via ethernet and simultaneously connect a laptop to the usb port and sniff macs without going through the router.

Does anybody know if this is possible ?

Short answer is NO

You can only have one bit of kit connected to the modem at a time. If you connect up via USB whilst already connected by ethernet, you will not get an IP address on your USB item so no point

Be interesting to see what'd happen if you tried this with one of the configs which allow 2 ip's, like the old XBOX configs.

I suspect Jeeves is right tho when it comes to trying this using 2 interfaces at once

If you had a 2IP config then you should get x2 IP addresses on the modem instead of just the one. This is set in the config file thats all and so what the OP is asking "should" work
