Hi,
I'm a new Newbie to all this and was hoping someone out there could advise me: I have both a V-Media Cable and a Sky Satellite dish installed. I'm not too sure whether to go for the likes of a Eurovox 5100 PVR (with HDD) for the cable connection or some kind of satellite receiver. I want to gain as many channels as possible, and preferably be able to record a channel/s while watching a different one. Even better if it cal also pause & rewind live TV - hence the Eurovox 5100 with HDD I'm considering. Any advice & tips would be very much appreciated!!! Cheers! TheGixer

Get a cable receiver for the first time, and then move on to satellite. Dbox 2's are very capable boxes

Hi,
Thanks for responding. Do you recommend that I start off with a Dbox 2 and if so, is it User Friendly - as I'm really new to this. Or should I go ahead with a Eurovox first? Cheers! |

For a user friendly box, then maybe go for a Eurovox EX1000SL and then maybe a Dbox which is slightly harder to configure, but really easy once you know how. Also, I personally think that the boxes like the Dbox 2 can survive in the future whilst other boxes won't have the slightest chance

I have seen some good reviews for the Eurovox EX1000SL and it's reasonably priced. However, it doesn't seem to give the option for recording, pause & rewind. For the price it seems that the Eurovox EX5100 (with optional HDD) may be the better choice, as the price isn't too bad - compared to the Dreambox HD receivers.
I'm currently using a Sky+HD box although have cancelled my Sky services, which terminate in a few days. I just wanted to be able to connect a receiver to either the Sky cable or my Virgin Media cable and have the same recording options etc as the Sky+ box. Not too fussed on HD though. Just as long the new receiver gets all possible channels and records etc (even if it means me getting a separate hard-drive for it). What do you think? Thanks!!! |
