Just wondering what size dish would I need to access the pakistani/indian channels? Also is there a guide telling what a certain size dish can pick up?

I think there is a very rough guide on dishpointer.com

Realistically, depending on location, 45E to 45W should be possible. If near the south coast or very high up, I think it up to about 70 degrees either way, not sure of the exactly figure, but it is when the elevation goes to zero and the sats are below the horizon.

Yes you could get it from Maplin, but Maplin know F*** all about satellite stuff, and most of it is crap. ( In my personal opinion!). Some items they sell are horrendously overpriced too.

There isn't much available FTA in the way of pakistani/Indian
check flysat.com

There is B4UMovies on 9E, and the Tamil Sun channels on 13E and 9E are viewable at the moment.

I think I read somewhere that assuming the earth is an exact sphere, 72.5 degrees either way of due south would be possible. Unfortunatley for us satellite enthusiasts the earth is full of hills and mountains. So short of living on the top of a mountain you should expect 45 degrees either side of due south, assuming a clear view of the sky.

Your other problem is that sats further round the arc are targetted at differant geographic locations so even if you could get a clear line of sight on say 61w for Dish Network, the beam is pointed at america and you would need a massive dish to pull the signal in if it's even possible at all.

Sorry for the late reply, but only thinking of putting up satellites now as the summer holidays have came-I went to dishpointer.com and entered the details

Keighley, Bradford ******* UK
then I clicked on the link where it said Would I get all those sats mentioned as long as the size of the dish supports it-I read somewhere I am only allowed 100cm motorised dishes without planning permission so I should get quite a few sats? Sorry if this is a stupid question

Another question-this time about a hammer drill-what drill should I get in terms of the amount of power and where from?

and the ladder-I know this is a less important piece of equipment, but I dont want to fall and break my back! Can anyone recommend me a good ladder and a place to buy from as well?

to install the dish mount a good sds drill will be best you can hire them from a tool hire place, instead of buying one.

also you should edit out your details bradford is fine for your location of where your based.

also ignore the kuband c band thing as the satellites over europe are all ku band that transmit to homes

Orbital 1m - ku band only, the dish is too small.

Ladders here:-

ladders-999.co.uk - probably the widest choice of ladders, steps and towers in the U.K.* -* alloy ladders, glassfibre ladders, roof ladders, telescopic ladders, loft ladders, combination ladders, ladders accessories, steps, alloy stepladders, glassfi
