I have been running Media Portal (and many others before) on windows for a while now but the odd crash and speed (even though high spec PC) is an issue.
I want to try out a few linux based options but cannot find a linux driver for my Technotrend Budget, any ideas where to find one or has anyone extracted from the windows dll and compiled one I could have? I have recently setup a few Eurovox's for friends and am tempted to move over to a STB, less hassle and speed.. but where can I find a STB that will replace a whole PC, DVD, DVB-C, MP3 and browsing?? I will post last bit in Receiver section as well, main point of this post is to try and get Myth TV (or any linux distribution/app) up with Technotrend Budget.. Cheers guys.. |

Its available but not cheap. The Dreambox 8000HD. If you dont want the HD bit then the Dreambox 7025 will give you most of what you want but with an external DVD

What version of Windows do you have, you might have MCE/VMC built in (although you've mentioned linux enough times that you'll probably curse me for suggesting it).
Friend of mine has just got a WD TV for Music, Pictures and Rips. One of those plus a STB might give you what you want... |

Been doing a bit or research over the last 2-3 days....
Seems to me that to get a STB with DVD, Hard Drive (PVR and playing MP3's and movies) will end up costing the same as a PC, which I already have.. So think I am going to stick with the box I have now.. small pc enclosure, fast cpu, 1TB drive, 3GB ram, DVD writer and so on... Could just do with removing the windows element which as ever is always the slowest piece of the setup.. Just need to find the linux DVB driver for the Technotrend budget, Technotrend web site seems to be down though, any ideas anyone? MythTV, LinDVB tried so far and don't detect the PCI card.. |
