Default Best extender to use

Hey guys,

So as your probably aware, Linksys have decided to discontinue there Media Centre Extenders, and in my oppinion they were the only extenders I was willing to buy at the time.

But, now the time has come, where Windows 7 is upon us, and somehow we have to feel the urge of going "ohh nice shiny new interface" when we load up Media Center (either on the PC or via Extenders)

That time for me has come now, in preperation for Win7 Retail release, but, Whats in everyones oppinion (except the linksys) is the best extender to use, which one supports the most natively, which ones come with full HD support, which ones look the nicest?

I ask because your oppinions may decide which are the next ones im going to buy, so be brutally honest with your oppinions please :-D

You're probably better off looking for an answer here:

The Green Button - Your Media Center Community

or

www.xpmediacentre.com.au

They have a whole section on Windows 7 and extenders..

I have 3 Xbox 360s that I use as extenders dotted around the house. Cant comment on the Windows 7 experience as I haven't migrated yet, but with Vista + TV pack, and 2x Floppydtvs they give a great interface, excellent picture quality (1080i/p thru HDMI or component) and Dolby Digital sound on BBC HD. Can also stream Divx thru the Xbox dashboard. And read something today about SkyTV coming to Xbox thru Live in the future . And of course you also have the benefit of being able to play games if you're not watching TV!!!

A couple of my 360s are the older (non-hdmi) models, so a bit noisier (fan noise), but my newest hdmi one is quite quiet (and supposedly more reliable iro potential red light problems than my older ones)

I suppose the 360 is the only choice, shy of Microsoft releasing something that allows you to turn PCs into extenders

But since, linksys was the only thing that was supporting MCE's and they not doing that anymore, you will have to stick with MS hardware, thankfully like you said maw123 the XBox360's have got quieter in general (shame the DVD drives havnt) and are less prone to RRoD, although i would be chancing it with the amount they would prolly be switched on lol
