Talking Ambit help query anyone please?

Hi
first off thanks for looking in,
i have a Ambit home 100, (the old nt* one)
I have recently been upgraded to 10mb, but this really dramatically changes, is this down to the modem, or is it down to restrictions on virmin?
i have been inforrmed via virmin this is more than capable of coping with 10mb
Some days i am barely getting 4mb, and upload is half of what it normally is
i regularly do speed checks to make sure i am getting value for money, but it isn't always at its peak, download can be from 9.80 (good in my opinion) to anything like 4.2 (poor if your paying for 10mg)

Is there a legit option to flash the modem or is it just one of them?
If i do flash, is there a talk back informing virmin i am up to no good, or do they provide firmware to flash and not mind you flashing the modem to get the best out of it ?

Or do i need to request an upgrade?
Any help much appreciated from anyone in the know,
Cheers

Sounds to me like the 'traffic management' After you download so much you get 'capped' for around 3-5 hours. Dont mess with your subbed modem, If you want more speed buy yourself another modem and flash it and use both modems or either 1 at a time..

nice one baked188, many thanks for the prompt reply, come to think of it, that could exactly be it, as the download is on 24/7 didn't think they capped, having read about a bit it appears they do, many thanks for your help

You can get another modem from a popular auction site for around a tenner. Play with that instead.
