In the menu in change display and audio settings, set tv display and v+box hi def output to suit your tv, you have to press text on remote to store it, you may have to find the right av channel on your tv, it should auto detect hdmi when you turn off and on again.

In display and audio settings turn off auto scart detect, also try booting up holding play/pause and stop button, then press fast fwd button a few times till you get hd on display, then press reset button, see if that works.
