Default Usb to serial

Hi everyone as you can see im new to this and after weeks of reading this forum i decided to have a go at getting my modem back up but......
i just bought a max232 only to realise that my desktop doesnt have a serial port :s so is it still possible to connect to the modem (ambit250) via usb to serial cable which would then connect to the max232? only reason is i need to change the name/passord as i cant get in with config tool as it has been changed

Thanks in advance for any help

I think USB to Serial converters work with the MAX232, I know it doesn't work well with an unlooper or programmer.

You can also get a serial port add in card that slots into one of your computers PCI slots.

The one I use seems to work with anything I try, Max232, Unloopers & programers, I think I posted it within the last two days, I'll have a look.

Are you sure you have connected the modem end of the connector the right way rounde? You normally get garbled characters when its the wrong way round.

Yeah, sometimes the converters cause hiccups. May I ask why you got a converter if you have a serial port already?
