Make that into a Dreambox 500S buying a tuner online and it will be a really good satellite receiever as a Terrestrial Reciever its pants! Just like any ordinary Freeview Reciever

You can't change the tuner on a 500 unless you get the soldering iron out

I thought even then the new satellite tuner would be rejected even if you solder it on as it does not have the necessary components on the motherboard?

No idea as i've never had to do it, although i can't see any reason why it wouldn't work

There's no reason why Dream Multimedia would produce 3 different mainboards for each configuration as this would not be cost effective

From what i can see the only difference with the 500 and for example the 600 is that one tuner is soldered in and the other fits in a socket but from what i can see each configuration still has the same mainboard

There is no reason why it wouldn't work. The only thing that makes it a pointless operation is that the tuner would probably cost the best part of £30 plus probably about £10 postage from Germany.

When you consider you can get a DM500s or DM500c clone now for around £50 it hardly makes it worth it.

The only good thing is that it stands a very good chance that its a genuine DM500 as to be honest i can't ever recall seeing a clone DM500t for sale anywhere, although i'm sure somebody will probably prove me wrong

Presumably you either have a sky dish outside or no dish-No dish obviously you get no channels, if you have a sky dish then you get all the free sky channels
