Default Area Change for Samsung 2100

Hi All,

I am a complete newb to all this but I like to think I pick things up pretty quickly to I will try not to annoy with really stupid questions if I can help it.

I was recently given a Samsung 2100 box by my dad, He lives in Derbyshire and I live in Manchester, It is an ex NTL box. It worked fine at my Dads without any problems. When I plugged it in after getting home it just hung between 20 - 30, after reading I found that I should hold down left > right ok and standby, I did this and I now get past LD 20 - 30 and I get a Virgin screen and it hangs at AP52. I read that the netid needs to be updated and this can be done by shorting the internal battery I have tried this but it still hangs at AP52, I have tried getting into the service menu by holding down up and down but LD14 flashed by to quickly and I am unsure how to enter this mode correctly.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Chad.

Depends what area you are!
If your in a pure area the net id will set itself, if its a cw you will have to set it with a funcard or jtag, also if your in a different provider area to your dads you'll need a different image/flash on the card

Cheers theted

I did leave it for about half an hour as I did read it could take a while, I have not tried it without the card in so will give that a try, I have not installed any splitters myself could these have been installed to split the cable between the TV and broadband?

Sometimes splitters can cause signal loss. I have a mate who's box wouldn't update upstairs (connected through a splitter) but when he plugged it in downstairs (directly into the feed), it updated straight away .

your dad is in c+w and you are in c+w. sometimes it works as i can use boxes with the manchester net id in lancashire.

you will need to make a net id funcard or, jtag the box with ocd commander to set the box up to work in your area.

I got the box for free so if I need to buy a programmer I can do that, they seem to be about £30 for a usb one? which funcard would I need there seems to be a few different ones - 2's and 7's? is Jtag free way of doing the same action? is this more complicated? any links would be great.
