Hi all,
as i understand it, the Dreambox 500c is a sat box that can be used as a network tuner? So you can stream sat tv to say VMCE across your network? Is there a cable box equivalent? I have a eurovox in the living room, and a htpc upstairs with a TT C-1501 dvb-c card in it. But tbh, its a ballache at times (the htpc that is). So, the thought of a box that plugs into the cable feed and also into my router which can then distribute its signal via IP would be cool. If such a cable box exists i assume i can change channels from the pc i'm viewing tv on? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers

No, the Dreambox 500C is a cable (DVB-C box) hence the C prefix. It would say Dreambox 500S (DVB-S) if it was a satellite box. Your box is a linux cable box, perfect for viewing cable TV mate

Thanks blakey. Would you mind giving me a brief explanation of a hypothetical setup that would allow users on the network running vmce to access all the tv goodness please?
And how it deals with keyrolls etc (i assume it AU's according to firmware releases). Does it require a card? Currently we have 3 pc's on the network that access tv: HTPC (TT C-1501) = can be areal PITA pc1 with DVB-T = problematic pc2 with DVB-T = seems ok, but obviously only fta channels. Cheers

I've never actually tried running my box through Media Center or similar. Yes, you can put an AU image on the box which will make the keys roll automatically

The dreambox has a fairly standard web interface which you can use for streaming, on a PC, to a viewer like VLC. The Web interface lets you change channel etc. Not sure there's anything specific you can do on vmce. Its something i've never tried as i've always felt it was far to US orientated with much reduced functionality for non-US users.
