Default xbox 360 3 rings of death

Hi my console has just started flashing with 3 rings of death . its been flashed i know i can try and send back to microsoft for free fix a friend if mine sent his flashed unit back and got a replacement. As ive opened up 360 a few times is it worth fixing it with a xclamp kits ive seen on fleabay and is this a better fix than sending it to microsoft or should i send it back for repair.

It's not better than sending it away because they fit a new motherboard. The X Clamp fix does work but some people haven't had success doing it. You can also have the CPU & GPU reballed but this is a really big task and requires expensive equipment (BGA soldering equipment is over a grand).

It's up to you what you do mate, the only guaranteed fix is to send it back to M$. I read on xbox-scene that they don't post it back free anymore, you need to pay postage on it which will be quite expensive if it's being sent to the US (although I think their is a building in Germany but i'm not 100% sure).

ive fixed 3 of them now and had 1 that was not the normal 3 ring (which i couldnt fix) if you have opened it before you may as well give it a try. im betting you will have saved more than the cost of a new xbox through all the downloaded games.

I have done a few X clamp fixes and it's a shame that I did not see this post earlier or I would have guided you to somewhere else to get the parts.

If you need any help post back here and I will take you through the fix. Have a read of this in the mean time and digest it. I used WD40 to clean the processors.

Llamma's Xbox 360 3RLOD (three red light error) X-Clamp Fix

One of the most important things is the thermal paste, don't use cheap ones stick to arctic silver paste.

Good luck.

P.s please do not use spring washers or nylon washers.

Don't the nylon washers cause shorts on the motherboard?
