Try a forced upate on the box. I've forgotten how to do it but it tells you in the V+ Application tutorial .

reformatted h/d,now working ok again, can now access eng menu.
for those that are interested heres how to format.
not my work.

How to format a V+ box

To reformat all operations must be carried out using the REMOTE CONTROL

1) Press the Home button.
2) Press and hold down the Play/Pause button until
the V+ box display says E-00.
3) Press the black V+ button. The front V+ display
will say E-01.
4) Press the channel down (CH-) button 4 times.
The V+ display will say 'hdd4'.
5) The V+ will then begin the reformat, and the display
will say 'rft'. This may take up to 5 minutes. Afterwards
the V+ will reboot normally.
6) Leave the box for about 10-15 minutes before inputting
series links so the EPG fully loads.
