Default Dead Eurovox (blue) help for newbies

Hi all
Firstly like to say thanks to all on this site for all the help offered to us newbies. Secondly to all newbies Try doing some searching on here before asking as most topics are well covered with lots of help and good info.

So my problem was that my euro max blue which I have had for 3 years without a hitch, other than the odd firmware upgrade, (which again at first seemed daunting but through the threads on here was actually easy) lost all power no lights nothing .

So had a quick look inside tested a few things and came to the conclusion power board goosed so ordered 1 from fleabay and fitted it !! but the plug to the main board was wrong!!! simple I thinks i'l cut the one from the old board connect it to the new board hey presto Still nothing so decide to have a look through the threads... (Doh should have done this first would have found that it was only the C14 capacitor blown on the power board and could have fixed it for 50p instead of 11.99 ) So anyway got reading and found that it prob would now need to be Jtagged?? ok I thought everyone in the know seems to be pointing people this way so I'l have to get me a kit and have a go.
Then I read an older thread DEAD EUROVOX started on 25-04-08 by davethecabbie and in this found this following useful bit of info from jamiejamie230

'your box is not bricked..... inside the box is a reset button.... start the firmware download and keep this button pressed while you switch it on at the mains. works everytime with the symptoms ur having..

step 1 - open cover
2 - start update proccess
3 - depress reset button inside the eurovox
4 - apply power while buttin is pressed
5 - release button

the firmware update will start.

works on eurovox red, blue and max v..

ive noticed whenever this problem arises ppl are always quick to mention jtag`ing, i hope everyone who reads this is aware that jtag`ing is the most dangerous thing u can do to the box if not done correctly..

only jtag as a last resort.... '

So I thought it was worth a try so after locating the reset button in the middle of the main board gave it a go and it worked connected box back up to TV cleared all data then a full power scan and everything working perfect
So what I'm trying to say is, as a newbie, Have a go or you'll neva learn there is plenty of help on here in the threads (even if it means doing some deep searching) Then if all else fails ask cos there are plenty of very helpful people on here who will guide you!!!!

Once again Thanks to all but especially Jamie hope this is of some help to all newbies (and maybe some of the more experienced members)

Great post Gazz-99, nice to see someone that actually uses the search function.
As youve already noticed theres a vast amount of info on the site thats been there a few years.
Its just a shame that most of this info was buried in the 100's of useless posts after the April 08 site invasionthat totally ruined this section IMHO
Lets hope some other newbies start using it!!

Thanks Ronster hope it helps a few people and some to realize that its worth a search for an hour or so rather than start a thread and wait for a reply that will prob take just as long anyway !!!!
