booting error

dell laptop has kernel.32.dll error on blue screen when booting.it reads stop.unable to locate component.failed to start because kernel.32.dll was not found.re-installing this applaction may fix problem.is this a hd problem?if so will i be able to get my data back or is it gone for good?thanks in advance

Hi, this what I would do if when I start my computer up and it says missing system32 files, this should fix the problem and let you back in.

1. Insert the Operating System & Installation/Product Recovery CD.
2. Restart PC.
3. Press any key to boot from the CDROM.
4. At CD options press R to enter the Recovery Console.
5. Press “1” and then “Enter” to logon to the Windows directory.
6. If asked for a password press “Enter”.
7. At the C;/ type "CHKDSK /R" then press “Ente”.
8. After completing it will show C: again.
9. Type "Exit" and press enter.
10. Allow PC to boot back into Windows.

thanks for the great help m8.i cant find cd to boot off.im on xp service pack 3.will any xp cd do me thanks again

Yes m8 any bootable xp disk will do the job for you.
