Default pvr 5000 faulty HDD?

I have had my pvr 5000 since before Christmas with no problems. It is not a clone. After doing a recent recording my pvr says "Hdd not installed or is full". Although I have quite a few recordings on it, it is not full. Because of the message I cannot now access the HDD to delete or watch any recordings. It is a Western Digital hdd. If I remove and re-insert I can hear it start to spin, but there is a slight wobbly noise. Is the HDD faulty or could there be another problem? The ex5000 works ok without the HDD, so I have just lost the record function. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks nibblitz will give that a try. Will have to borrow a laptop as I don't have one. Can you please give some more info on how to run the Bios Hard Disk Diagnostics. I'm 62 and not too computer literate.

Beegee.

I've had this problem with mine before and all it needed was switching off at the back of the Eurovox, leaving off for 30 seconds or so, then switching back on. This solved the problem on mine, it may do for yours as well.

Let us know how you get on.

Different Laptops have different ways of running the Bios Drive Diags.. Its normally an option to select within the Bios Disk Drive Menu .. To get into the Bios you normally press a certain key during power on.. On power on the screen normally displays a message briefly.. Something like "Press DEL to enter Setup" or maybe "Press F10 to enter setup" .. thats how you get in the bios.. (but yea, as said above, power cycling the box might resolve it)

Thanks for the reply. Tried that initially but no joy. Have switched on/off quite a few times with the HDD in the in/out positions but still the same.

Hello all. Will try not to bore you with the details but have now established that the HDD is kn*ckered. A computer literate friend got it tested out in 'Silicon Valley'! The nice guy at MyCableBox has offered to replace if I return it (after 7 months). Hopefully this will be end of thread!
