Ok so i was reading something about mpeg4 dvb-t being available from ireland via the cam slot, so does this mean dvb-s freesat could be given the same way or is it too different????

Surely if you just point your dish at 28.2e then you would just get freesat without the need of a cam?

Eh?? The question doesnt make sense.

Freesat (& indeed 95% of all digital transmissions in Europe) are mpeg2 and will work without cams of any sort.

Mpeg4 is a long way away for general use in Europe.

If you've got a slot in your TV-then no you cant put a CAM in there to access UK TV.The receivers are also relatively cheap

Right, sorry if my first post is puzzling..

What goes on in my ed doesn't always translate to the web...

Right here goes - Ireland will be going DVB-T Mpeg4 for their Digital telly, i have seen somewhere a cam that will work as a kind of freeview box to decode mpeg4 via the TV cam slot. I was just wondering THEORETICALLY would a dvb-s (freesat) cam be possible?? i've got a wall mounted TV and receiver, just think a neater look for freesat would be via the cam slot....

Hope that makes sense!

Ah I think I get what you are aiming at.

Very much doubt it - remember the satellite box has a tuner, and all the demultiplexing electronics associated with a tuner in it. Even assuming all the other gubbins (video & audio circuits) are handled by the tv theres still a big power requirement to run the tuner - the lnb is a powered gubbins not a passive block of electronics.

Makes much more sense now. And surely even though you have a cam in your receiver, you would still have to get a sat dish and aim it at 28.2e, unless of course you're talking about the neatness of the receivers under the TV
