Default Advise for a complete noobie pls

Hi,
I've read through this site to some extent and can't find how to back up my existing image. I have however downloaded a guide which I am following, however, it says to back up services.xml and bouquets.xml. It says to use IE to connect to the Dbox which I have, So I just went into the box again and found the file (although it was in the parent directory of 'root', other than that it was in the right place, i.e in tuxbox etc) but it won't let me copy it, only a shortcut, when I open the file there's loads of info there but I kinda feel that I should be able to just copy it, is this right? Also, there isn't a file called bouquets.xml file, is that because I haven't organised any channels yet?

Any help would be a god send.

Cheers

One of my questions is about Boxkeys and Ird, as I have a Nokia Dbox do I need these, or is it only a v*m issue, i'm reluctant to go any further with flashing the new comando 11 image as I don't want to fook anything up?

BK & IRD is only needed with the modification of cable boxes.

hi.. did you manage to back up your image?

heres how for everyone else out there :

might be different for other boxes but similar (work it out):

press dbox button , then service, go down to image upgrade.
then choose expert functions, then i choose read whole image this now copies the image as it is and places it into var/tmp it could be called something like tmpimage or similar..
now you need ftp access into the dbox, use any good ftp software i use leapftp as this also allows chmodding when working the other way.
now ftp into box and navigate too var/tmp forlder and look for the img file then copy that to your pc. that is your backed up image save it and keep it safe.
one thing to note the tmp image will be deleted if the dbox gets powered down during the process so start again.

this is a basic guide to backing up your image and could be different similar on your dbox but its basically the same procedure on most dboxes.

please also note no questions will be answered about your specific image etc there are too many about.. like i said before work it out!!

have fun and good luck everyone at backing up your image!!

regards dave

just so that newbies dont get confused, BK & IRD is only needed with the modification of Virgin Media boxes eg: the paces, samsungs etc...

Both the boxes mentioned can be modded , The retrieval of BK on the 2110 can be done via jtag method , But with the 2110 you must have a paired card to get the BK
