Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for its own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc.) Here’s how to get it back:
Click Start / Run Type: gpedit.msc This opens the group policy editor. Then go to: Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Network / QOS Packet Scheduler / Limit Reservable Bandwidth[/color] Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab: (N.B) By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the systemto 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default. So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. THIS WORKS, IVE TRIED IT CHEERS JONNY_5293 |

You'll not notice a damb difference.. tut tut OP, trying to make it sound like doing this will magically give people a faster internet connection.. YOU WILL NOT HAVE A 20% FASTER CONNECTION - YOU WON'T BENEFIT IN ANYWAY AT ALL .. Google it people... rofl ..But if you wanna tinker with inner settings for absolutely no worth, go ahead .. lol

The 20% thats supposedly reserved (it actually isn't but thats another story) is on your Lan. As most lans' run at 100Mbps thats still 5 times faster than VM's 20Meg connection. Losing 1/5th of the lan bandwidth isn't going to interfere with the VM WAN connection in any way whatsoever !

As said above, the reserve is also only on the lan connection. An individual PC on a router has no power to reserve bandwidth on the WAN. |
