My solution was the Konig PRO series CATV Signal Amplifier. (the big yellow brick)

After tweaking the gain + slope controls slowly for 5-10mins, I got my DS to within the -6 - +6 range and my snr back to 35-36 up from 28-31 while keeping snr for the STB at around 37.

The cause was a 4-way splitter.
I think i need a big yellow brick as my modem often does exactly the same..
Im using a 3 way splitter at the moment & if it will cure my signal problems im all for it..
Upstream transmit Power Level : 59.5 dBmV..

50 pounds see here Been away

I only made that thread as I had a LOT of newbies PMing me when I couldnt get online and I didnt want to look like I was ignoring them. All the VM engineer did was change the old splitter for a new one !!!! Pretty p****d off at them, but at least I have a little scam for the future when this happens

would a signal booster work for uploading too?

on a 20MB connection i get about 0.72 upload, this means when i host on xbox live the strength isn't good enough, shouldn't i be getting better upload? i already have a 4DB booster that V put in with the modem, so i assume my signal is weak anyway, especially as my upload drops when i take it off?

what are others getting as upload?
