Basically, I have a Scientific Atlanta 2100 modem in my room(not modified-genuine sub) and sometimes when I want to watch TV, I pull out the cable connected to it, and hook that up to my receiver
The problem is that once I put the cable back in to the modem, it takes ages for internet to come back again. and unfortunately I cant just use this without a splitter because a) the family would be quite annoyed at me(especially my little brother lol) seeing as they cant have TV b) The splitter is downstairs, whilst the modem is upstairs When I unplug this modem and take it downstairs along with the PSU just to check if their is an internet connection,I "plug" the coaxial cable in to the back of the mode, power it up, and the cable light lights up along with the little dance it does to show that its connected to the net When I leave it upstairs, it will do a little dance with the lights first, show the PC as connected, but the cable light will just flash and nothing gets sent or received until some time later when it comes back to life of its own accord Also I dont leave this hooked up to the TV for long, as I just normally watch Family guy/ South park upstairs(and maybe a movie if theres a good one on) but thats about it |

Sounds like a low signal issue to me.

Beat me to it.
My modems would often do the same thing, sometimes failing to re-sync entirely. My solution was the Konig PRO series CATV Signal Amplifier. (the big yellow brick) After tweaking the gain + slope controls slowly for 5-10mins, I got my DS to within the -6 - +6 range and my snr back to 35-36 up from 28-31 while keeping snr for the STB at around 37. The cause was a 4-way splitter.

The big yellow brick is cheap on ebay and I used just the one to boost 5 outputs in total (simply by placing it before the splitter(s)).

If you're modem isn't modded then why fk about?
Tell them to come and fix your signal because it connects immediately downstairs and takes ages upstairs. You've not looked into SNR or DS power level, so you can tell them 'why you know' its the signal: Its because its obvious. It doesn't sound like you actually know anything re modems that you shouldn't anyway. In fact...it may not be the signal at all..have you tried turning off the power to the modem before you disconnect the feed, then plugging the feed back in before the power? It may be that simple.. sr20 Last edited by sr20; 23-06-09 at 05:02 PM. |
