Well...so what should I do?yes they both look the same and both don't work-no idea why.Is there anything else I can do?Maybe some other driver,please!Are there any usb serials for sale on the website?

Do you think it would work if I used gender changer instead of a usb converter?if not i'm going to maplin tomoroow.i'm very desperate to make it work!

I have got null modem cable and I wanted to use it with gender changer to connect to laptop instead of usb serial converter I think i've read it somewhere on forum...well if not then will have to buy it for £20!

If the laptop has a serial port, it will be a male 9-pin, the null-modem has female on both ends, so you won't need the gender bender. Are you confusing it with the VGA socket?

What I can see on my laptop is: 15-pin female port and 3 usb ports...that's all.I thought I could use 9-pin male into 15-pin male "changer" if it exists?

I would check the 15 pin port again - I suspect it's an external monitor port, not a serial port.
