Setanta is gone in GB. Delete the channels, they're not coming back!

but if espn buy over Setanta, would they not just use the Setanta name and reinstate the channels?

I would suspect it's likely that ESPN will buy the Setanta playout and MCR equipment, maybe even use some of the same personnel. I also suspect that the Setanta channels will be renamed ESPN on cable but not until VM secure a carriage deal.
