ive just received an email, which is supposedly from paypal, in which it reads:- [alert] update your accont information. ...it goes on to say you have limits on your paypal account which impedes you in certain ways, so it asks you to click on the link, it then asks you to confirm your email, and your password, so it can 'verify' your account. i emailed paypal. it turns out it most definately is NOT from paypal, they say its a phishing scam to get your details..... be warned people. dont fall for it. and definately DO NOT click on the link.

Paypal is basically a bank and if something was taken out unauthorised, you can then mark payment as unauthorised and you would get your money back. My mate was stupid enough to try out a paypal hack software. One that made you input your details. His bank balance after that was -£140(well it said so on the statement anyway), but luckily paypal gave the money back that was taken out

These type of e-mails “phishing e-mails” have been circulating for quiet a while now so people should be aware of them, I’ve received e-mails pretending to be from Paypal, Abbey, Barclays and so on, I’ve also received e-mails pretending to be from banks that I’m not even a registered with, Paypal or Bank would always advice against clicking on the link provided by these e-mails and bank or Paypal would never ask you to enter your account details they will ask you to go to your account to verify your details and the only safe way to that is close the e-mail and open a new browser and make sure the Bank or Paypal address starts with http://, if you can pay attention to what the advice of the Bank or Paypal you can’t go wrong, so play it safe or you will be very sorry m8s.

Whenever I get an email from Paypal, the bank etc. I usually go to the website independant of the email (as in I use my own bookmark or enter the address manually). A quick check for a secure link is if the link is to a https:\\ or a http:\\. https is secure (unless this is now out of date information).
I don't think you have to be paranoid with your security, just use a bit of common sense and you'll be fine. |

Our accounts guy for our poker forum got stung by a similar scam for Moneybookers. We had just transferred £1100 into the account and within a day it was gone. Turned out our guy had received the same sort of email and filled in the account details a few weeks previously, the scammers obviously waited until there was a bit of cash in there and then BOFF! it was gone. What makes it even worse is that after several frantic emails and 10 days later we got a response from Moneybookers saying they had recovered the full amount. Two days later another email arrived saying "oops, my bad, we only managed to recover £48".
