Default Re: Your first ever program

My first ever programme was for a programmable signal generator in about 1978. It had to produce a simple sin wave but every 100th oscillation the wave had to have double amplitude. It was used to provide the reference signal to drive an electro hydraulic ram pushing on a truck brake actuating lever to simulate hard emergency braking every 100th press of the brakes.

I was looking at some of my early code today (surprised I kept it) and found some polynomial curve fitting routines written in Fortran on a GEC4082 dating back to 1980. those were probably my first traditional programmes.

I must be old I still write programme and not program

Winsock client capable of file sending encryption and decryption, with an external database saved as .txt . Was used for my buddies at college to send games around really quickly and the admins knew nothing. Visual Basic 6.0.

I can't remember my very first program, but it's a definite that it was written in 1979 on a TRS80 Model I 32K with 32K expansion interface, pmsl! We used to have competitions to see who could write the best one liner. 240 characters long, but edit the line after entry and you got 15 more characters, lol.
