Default Bit of help/Advice for a newbie please!!!

I am new to all this so here goes i have a surfboard modem flashed and ready and have used DHCP when connected to the cable and have got alot of maccs saved from this area ubr01.gateshead. This is where i need help can i use these macs or do i need to swap these for diffrent macs? if i do need to swap for driffrent ones which area will i need the macs from. sorry but very new to all this any help would be very gratefull thanks

if you have used dhcp force you cant use these macs. if you have used dhcp sniffer you can use some of them.

if dhcp force, you need to trade them with someone outside of your ubr, ideally the surrounding ubrs...

ubr02.gateshead
ubr03.gateshead
ubr04.gateshead
ubr05.gateshead

ect, perhaps even from newcastle. or north/south sheilds ect

basically, its all just changed recently. what used to work now doesn't.

if you get one online, as a basic rule of thumb, if you telnet into the modem and check the lease time by doing this command....

cd ip
lease_show 1
y

if it comes up with just short of a hour reboot the modem and check again, it should go to a week, if it does, this is the best you can hope for.

if the lease shows 120 secs. try another mac.

tonight you'll be saying 00 14 ** ** ** ** in your sleep!

how can i check it my SB4200i with SB4200-0.4.4.5-SCM01-NOSH-2.02.hex dont have telnet option.

how do i telnet in to my modem its a surboard with sigma firmware thanks
