Not sure about LED, but they do say OLED is going to be the future. Unfortunately we're like 20 years behind countries like Japan

Ill let other members give their input, but Im fine with my LCD TV yet. Ill only switch over if the LED TVs actually save some money(on the leccy bills)

More black and lower power consumption are Samsung's promises for this LCD TV. These improvements stem, the manufacturer claims, from the type of backlight technology: Instead of fluorescent tubes, this liquid crystal display uses LEDs to illuminate its picture. In this model, the LEDs are arranged around the edges of the screen and not, as usual, behind it - this keeps the casing slim.
The localized backlight dimming ("local dimming") found in many top LCD TVs is not possible with this version of LED technology. The TV nevertheless promises deeper blacks than are possible with fluorescent lamps - Samsung has pitched this flat-panel into the TV upper class. "" lOOk's Good peeps ..!

If its picture quality you're looking for, then look at the Panasonic Viera plasmas. There are some very good deals around at the moment (including 5 year warranties). I looked at the Samsung 46" LED, but it was nowhere near as good as the Panny plasmas in my opinion.

sd - aka standard definition(normal telly=freeview/sky)...
on sky as it is low-bitrate artefacts are really evident in picture as it is effectively "upscaled" i was looking at the 46" tv mind u....
