ok i've connected the serial cable and usb, inserted the card, gone into nagraedit 4.1 and clicked read card and i get the following message:

Opening of COM2 was successful
Reset failed
Error reseting card, ATR string invalid
Closing of COM2 was successful

do i need to somehow set the programmer into phoenix mode? and if so how? and i dont even know if the programmer works, theres no led's to indicate it is on. and i get the same message in nagraedit even when the programmer is unplugged!

It's a Phoenix/Smartmouse programmer so you don't need to adjust anything as it is already set. Go to "Tools>Options>Communications" in Nagra Edit and change the COM Port. It is usually COM1 if you use an onboard serial port.

i've tried changing com ports between com1 and com2 in both nagraedit and device manager with no luck. can it be the serial cable by any chance? it was an old one i found at work.

and there is no on/off switch on the violet programmer, i've plugged in the usb cable so i'm assuming that must just turn it on.

Has the serial cable been confirmed working? Do you have an unlooper that you could connect it to to see?

Use boxget pc2 to get your boxkey, then you can use A3E/B09 dc2 in 4.1 to open card, click on comms to load, this will wipe your bk though, or you can try xncs nagra studio to get backdoor key.
