Default Memory Question?

In Response to my other thread about my new pc working and it being pointed out it maybe the memory, I had a bit of a question about memory.

I have some Kingston KVR800D2N6K2/4G ram (2 x 2gb pack), its PC2 6400 memory which seems pretty standard DDR2 800mhz but it says CL6, I presume thats the timings? most memory I have seen has been CL5 and some CL4, I wondered what the difference is?

I have an Asrock motherboard and noticed that on the kingston website that it doesnt list a single Asrock mobo as being checked for compatibility and I wonder if this might be the problem?

I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the slightly grey area called memory?

I'm a little bit stuck despite reading up on it, please help!

OK, talking about CL4,5,6 or whatever maybe listed on your memory basically is the clock cycle delay. CL3 takes 3 clock cycles delay to deliver data. 4 would be 4 clock cycle delay etc etc etc.

As for compatibility listing's, Kingston is pretty much the most commonly used RAM used in system's, unless your into high end gaming etc etc etc. Contact Kingston direct if your unsure, any RAM you have been supplied manufactured by kingston would be offered an RMA. They are very custoemr focused when it comes to compatibility issues with their own product's. I used to work at a place called Web-Systems doing technical and RMA's. Kingston were the best for replacement and for compatibility.... Period
