Default Legit 50meg question

Probably stupid questions, but thinking of upgrading to a legit 50meg line .........

  • Are the new 50meg modems registered with only one ethernet MAC address, or can I swap them around different computers/routers ??
  • Will I still be able to use cloned ambit 250 modems on the same line ??
  • I currently run a media PC with x2 floppy dvb-c cards, will they still work ok once I upgrade the modem ??
  • How the hell so I hide all this stuff when v-gin come to install ??
simple questions, but just not sure.....

Thanks

You should be fine with running the cloned one on the same line.
They dvb-c cards should work.
Stick your equipment in the loft when they come to do the install

On this point, as far as I can remember, but I have never tested it, you can only connect 10 different pieces of equipment with unique MAC's and then anything else you connect will not get a connection anymore. The MAC's that are connected are stored in the modems memory and once you reach the limit you can only connect one of the ten devices that have been connected previously.

As I said I have never tested this but I read it on a site a long time ago when I was researching modem modding, so it could still well be the case with subbed equipment.

I think VM removed the MAC registration necessity a while ago. On a subbed modem you seem to be able to connect whatever you want. The only downside is you need to power cycle the modem each time and you end up with a new IP address for each different MAC you use.

I think its the same with the 50Meg modems but i've not tried this yet.

The cable line will run as before as far as other devices are concerned EXCEPT the 50Meg modems seem to be much more sensitive to noise and signal level.
