im am trying to build a circuit with the max 232 chip. i have been looking around on websites and found there are several different varients of the chip. just wondering if theres any specific one i need.

Unless you are determined to build your own, it's easier to get one off of fleabay for around a fiver.

That's a kit which you build up yourself but as cockneysean said, you may as well buy a pre-built one then you know it's going to work
