Brian took it down as he decided it was unsuitable and likely to cause friction / bad feeling..

If members have a problem they should take it up directly with brian.

I can understand the Satellite Mods getting p155ed off with new posters etc, but to label all "Cable Enthusiasts" as muppets, due to one post wonders asking for keys is a bit OTT.

There's a lot of time, energy & devotion used to learn about cable networking, and I'm not just talking about the Modding side.

I believe both can run parallel with each other, as long as the Enthusiasts from both sides respect what each other do & know.

Alas, I do see this is not the case on TW.

Some do some don't, everyone is entitled to their own view.

No what really hacks the sat boys n girls off are the new members who cant be bothered to spend 10 minutes looking at the forum and hijacking the satellite section with cable questions

Good grief - the forum was redesigned a few months ago so the cable section was first in the index to make things as simple as possible for less technically aware cable members. Anyone posting

"Ive got a <insert generic cable box name> tell me how to get free cable tv"

in the satellite receivers section is a very a complete pillock who shouldnt be allowed anything more complicated than an Etch A Sketch.

Let me point out we deal with dozens of these posts every month. Its too much hassle to deal with them so they get deleted.

Calling anyone who posts keyes a muppet is being cruel to muppets - anyone endangering the forum should be tied to a stake and some painful punishment applied.

As a fairly new member, I realise my input might not be considered as valid as some of the other opinions, but 'm egotistical enough to give it anyway.

I joined here when looking to modifiy my cable box. I didn't ask for illegal information, I didn't post in the wrong section, I searched, I read the stickies, and when I had a bit of a grasp of things, I tried helping other members. I don't contribute much to the cable forum as my experience is very limited, though if I do see a simple question that hasn't been answered I'll try to help out. I now tend to just check in to laugh at the idiocy in the football thread ( ), read the jokes and look in the video games sections.

So why do some members make me feel like I have no place here?

Nothing specifically has been directed at me (that I'm aware of, though I have been known to be a little slow when picking up hints ), but constantly being referred to as a cable muppet is devisive, and unwelcoming. Like many of the other "cable cretins", I agree that people posting keys, not reading the stickies, and posting in the wrong sections for quick answers to topics covered many times are t**ts, and I couldn't give a toss about them getting banned/infringements/publically flogged. I do care that a certain section of this community want to tar us all with the same brush, and refer to all cable people as muppets, cretins, and generally talk about us as if we are second class members on this site.

I understand it might be annoying for the Satellite bores (joke ) to have to deal with the morons who want to post in their section asking "how do I chip my Samsung xxxx", but it's no reason to alienate the many cable members who bring with them a LOT of technical knowledge. If the cable muppets are that unwelcome, why have a cable section? If cable enthusiasts are welcome, why allow the constant insults directed in their general direction? It really does feel like (to a non satellite enthusiast) that some members resent non-sat bores being on their "patch".

Techwatch is a great and helpful forum, very friendly, and I have a lot of respect for the team who run the forum - not giving special treatment to the cable-modem expert who was on here was a great display of how a forum should be - regardless of your knowledge, you have to stay friendly to stay here.

Looks like my 2p has turned into 50p, so I'll leave it there. Thanks for a great forum, just though I'd give my view that as a non-satellite person, it can feel quite unwelcoming (luckily there's more than enough helpful members who make it feel VERY welcoming).
