asus hard drive

hyi guy's have asus x58l series trying to relace vista with xp cannot access the hard drtive now w3hen xp disc is inserted it shows no hard drive present not how do i get int to wipe it and install x.p. or do i need to relace the hard drive

How far into the installation do you get before the no hard drive message appears?
If the hard drive is a SATA drive you will need to load the drivers for XP to recognise it, you usually get the option after booting from the disk.
It's been a while since I've loaded XP onto a SATA hard drive so I can't remember at what point you get the message, but it states something like press F6 to install 3rd party software, do you get to this point?

If you have XP SP2 or SP3 it will have the drivers already loaded. If you have an SP1 disk, you could use nlite to merge SP3 in to the pack and then you could re-install
