Default Not sure what to call the title .. lol - my first post

Hey guys. Hope you are all fine. I am new to this forum and have been browsing around a little bit and decided to join what seems to be a friendly, helpful forum.

I have an enquiry.
Basically my dad has found this man to come and put cable in our house where we will supposedly be able to receive all channels. He told us we needed a cable wire going into our house - either broadband or basic cable tv for him to do it so I assumed that he would set up a d-box and I have read here (through the search) that it does not have a talk back in the box so Virgin Media (my cable company) would not have the faintest idea what was going on. However my dad informed me today he gave the viewing card (the card Virgin provide in their box) to the man. Now I dont know what hes going to do with it. Will he chip it and be able to receive all cable channels? If so does this mean if he puts it back in the box Virgin Media will know? I am very worried about this.

Also on top of this we decided we wouldn't just have cable in one room but in two rooms. For the other room he brought a box round (it was an ntl box with a virgin card inside) .

Does anyone know from this info what hes going to do and if I will get caught.

He is also charging 210 pounds to fit it for both rooms so I don't want it to be something where Virgin will know I am getting illegal cable.

Any information would be great.

I do apologise if I am asking a repetitive question but could not really find much information when I administered a search.

Thank you very much.

If you are getting the boxes from virgin and he is doing just the cards then you're getting ripped off m8.

(and if they are sub boxes, you shouldn't get a card done for them)

If you have your own boxes then you might as well read a-lot more and get the equipment you need and do it your self for less than 100 quid.

Find out all the info from your dad about the boxes.

Are they (boxes/cards) from Virmin or the guy.

One box is Virgin Medias and one box was his own that he brought. The card that came with the Virgin media box he took. Judging by what you guys are saying this doesn't seem too wise. I mean even if he cuts the talk back wont Virgin Media get suspicious or what happens if they want their box back or something? That is illegal I heard (using the search) because you are tampering with equipment that isn't your own...right?

To the poster that said I should do it myself. I know a lot of people must say this here but I'm not really too confident on this stuff. I was thinking of calling my cousin because he has a D-box but my dads called this guy already now so it would be kind of rude to turn him away I guess.

On the other hand I dont want Virgin Media to take me to court.

you talk about cutting talk back being illegal, do you not think receiving cable for free is illegal? the least you could do is pay a minimum subscription for what you are going to be receiving.

Sorry. I should have said I didnt feel comfortable doing it to Virgins own box because there could be a chance they may check it right? I mean can they know talkback has been cut from one of their boxes.

Also I have paid minimum subscription. I have the basic cable package.

Yes they can, to put the last comment into understandable English, If you cut the TB on a subbed box it will effectively fall off Vermin's radar and then they will wonder why and most likely come round.

If you leave it connected they can see if you are watching channels that you shouldnt be and may also come round, however I had a mate bug me for so long that I eventually gave in to shut him up and after 8 months Vermin found his box but they never showed up at his house all they did was cut off the use of his On Demand service, he recently moved house and Vermin fitted the cable's for him and his chipped box and they never said a thing.

If your paying for your boxes to be done regardless of whether they are subbed or not you should only be paying at the most about £40 each although most ppl will do it for less, if you buy your own gear then it will cost you say £100 to set up but if you do all your mates for a small fee then it works out as free.

Hope this helps.

Peeps here always advice against modifying sub boxes and they say that for a reason (you don’t really want to find out why) buy your self a box from car-boot and mess about with it, your m8 story only gives wrong ideas m8.
