If your really into gaming you are far better getting a desktop as the latest games in a years time are unlikely to be playable on a £450 laptop bought now and some of the latest now may struggle. I have a £750 laptop and a £350 desktop both around 6 months old and for games the desktop is in another league and can be upgraded easily (new graphics card more RAM etc). For example playing Empires Total war the laptop is very glithchy and plays in a very low resolution but the desktop plays it great.
