Remote madness!

Okay, it's not technically a satellite issue, but this place has never seen me wrong.

The remote on my technomate won't work in my bedroom. Okay, i thought the remote was dodgy. Borrowed an identical remote from my sister, didn't work, thought the box was dodgy. Put a cheapo silvercrest into my bedroom instead, the remote doesn't work. Put the technomate in the kitchen, low and behold the remote works.


What the hell could possibly be going on?

I have a new internet mobile connection now as opposed to the old wireless through the router plugged into the phonelines. That's all i can think of that may be affecting it. I did try moving the laptop away from the room with the box for 20 mins or so but the remote still didn't work.

Anybody have any experience or knowledge of this nonsense?

Remote controls (usually) use infra red. If there were another powerful source in the room, this could stop with remove controls working. One way to look for this would be with a digital camera (the cheaper the better). They are sensitive to IR light. (Try operating a remote control with it pointing at the camera and you should see it flashing on the screen.)
