hello all my friends ps3 has stoped playing disks the blue light that comes on to say a disk is in dosent come on, he rang the playstation support line who told him that its out of warranty, he has it over 2 years, some people have said that its a problem with the bluray board so if we buy a ps3 blu ray drive unit of fleabay for $150 will it fix the problem ??

It might sound simple, but have you tried using a lens cleaning disc?

yeah i tried that it didnt work so i opened it up to clean it and to get the disk out because it wouldnt eject i cleaned the lense but it didnt work, by chance a friend of mine had bought a new laser for his and got sent two by mistake, so i put it in, it now reads the disk's but wont eject them, i have to stick a card into the drive to get the disk out, i took it apart again and again to see if i put it together wrong but i dont think i did where did i go wrong ?????

yeah it try's to eject i think it makes a clicking noise than the blue light goes out but the disk doesnt, so when you turn it off and back on again it loads up the disk again

yeah you were right, I took the back plate on the drive off it turned out to be the flat steel bar that connects the two slide rails, I fixed it in place it now ejects no prob, the only thing now is the optical laser is faulty well I think its that, when you put in the disk it dosent grap it you have to push it in a good bit for it to take and go in, but if you turn it off and put the disk in a little and then turn the ps3 back on it grabs it no bother so i think its the optical laser ??

The laser just reads the game, might be the mechanism is goosed. As long as games play fine I wouldn't worry about it unless you want to get it sorted.

their are two lasers the main 1 reads the games or dvd ect ect the other is for loading disks do you know when you put in the disk and the machine grabs it well the laser tells the drive that a dick has been inserted, ie the disk breaks the beam, the reason i think its that is because when you turn on the ps3 the drive tries to load a disk even though their is no disk being inserted its probably more of a ir beem or someting like that
