![]() lol, people still think the TV detector van myth is true, wooohahahaaa... so funny... The "New GPS Technology" the TVL website say they now use "to target addresses" is nothing more than a TomTom Satnav, lol.. Yep, they've now given Satnavs to the guys who drive the Vans around to better find the addresses from their database of addresses that are shown not to own a TV License.. People, the TV Detector Vans do exhist, there are about 26 of them, but the TV Detector Vans are not full of wonderful wizardry for detecting TV's, they contain nothing more than a Bloke and his Thermos Flask, a Clipboard with addresses on, a Satnav, and maybe a PSP for the man to mess about with (when not knocking on doors) whilst he parks up on a street to scare the neighbourhood.. haha

i deliver literally thousands of telly licence enquiry letters (i,m a postie) and so called enforcement reminders over the year,....year in, year out. they constantly repeat this process over and over and over again, as people just ignore their request for 'information' that they,re already supposed to have. obviously their so called 'supervans' are just a load of bollocks

If you read the LAW about tv lisencing it STATES a coax needs to be connected (NOT them exact words) BUT all sky and virgin boxes either eurovox`s or dreambox`s DO NOT USE a coax, So are you breaking the law not HAVING a lisence......
THE ANSWER IS NOOOOOOOOOOOO I haven`t had a tv lisence for the last 7 years I have been taken to court 9 times and I have beaten them everytime. IF you get taken to court you normally get that idiot that thinks he knows about the law but if you point out that you do not have a coax connected what can they do, The first time I was taken to court that idiot that sat on the bench STILL fined me even after I pointed out the law and I took it to crown court and I was paid full expensies. I used to have a full copy of the laws on tv lisencing but I needed to format my pc and lost it but I will get it again....... |

sorry mate, i disagree, if you,re use a telly to RECEIVE programs, be it via coax, or cable or sky feed, then you need a licence. i agree they cant prove that your telly is connected if you only have coax, but if you have a sky or cable telly package, then its obvious you,re using your telly to receive programs. ....why else would you buy a telly package if you were not using it.

Believe me, they do have equipment and it can be used to detect. Its just not particularly good in densely packed urban areas. Its pretty good in rural areas though, where, for some odd reason, people seem to feel safe from such things ! There's so few vans around though, that its not really much of a deterrant. As said above most info comes from the obligations of cable/sat providers as well as all new tv purchases etc having to be logged. oh, there are also some fake vans that are marked up to look like the real thing. These tend to just drive around in the more urban areas where detection is much harder. They are obviously just used as a scare tactic. Last edited by TheCoder; 11-07-09 at 12:26 AM. |

Yes, I have seen inside one. .. Have you seen the special super duper detecting equipment they're meant to have in them? honestly, your answer has to be No, as they don't have it or use it, lol .. They use a database of addresses, nothing more, nothing less..
