Default Ambit 256 constantly disconnects!

Hey guys, I'm having some bother with my Ambit 256 modem and I'm praying from a little divine intervention from high above or yourselves, whichever comes first . The modem constantly disconnects and very rarely reconnects to the internet by itself. Remote rebooting never works, nor does manually turning it off at the mains and back on after 30secs. For some reason if I turn my VM set-top tv cable box off at the mains and turn it back on the modem will re-establish a connection. Once it does the connection is unstable at the best of times. Having read through quite a few threads I know that to get any kind of help you'll need to see logs of whats going on. Unfortunately the likes of telnet is beyond me at the moment so all I have to give you at the moment are the modem browser logs. I'm hoping there's something there that you guys will be able to pick up on. Just incase it makes any difference, my modem hasnt been modified in anyway that I'm aware of, as it came directly from Virgin and was installed by an engineer.

Anyway, hope to hear from anyone who's willing and able to help. Below should be a copy of the logs.

If its VM equipment dont bother messing around just get an engineer out to sort it out. You may well have a low signal and the engineer maybe able to boost the signal for you and set it just right for you.

Thanks for the reply Smurf.

I didn't have any intentions of modding the modem as I'd likely fk it all up
Thought I'd have to get in touch with VM eventually, but their cust services are rediculous at the best of times, if i'm referred to tech support should I ask to be put through to 3rd tier support?? If so, what should I ask the techies to do so that it gets tackled correctly and quickly?

It's highly possible that your MAC has been cloned lol.

But if you are a VM customer, you really should call them.

Jon - not sure what my signal strength is, what do I look for in the modem info that tells me this?

Cockney - I'm assuming having my MAC cloned is not a good thing?? lol
If my mac has been been cloned, should I suggest to them that this is possibility that I'm aware of?? and if so what exactly should I request they do??

How does one go about preventing his MAC from being cloned?? Or is it usually a guessing game by those who manage it??

Don't do that. It will arouse suspicion. MAC cloning is basically what we are all about here on this part of the site. If someone has cloned it and tried to use it on your UBR your modem will reboot.
