Hi guys ive tried everything so I thought id ask for help. Ive got a packard Bell Easynote, I downloaded ac97 audio when I first got it and it worked fine. I then got a virus, managed to get rid of it properly and now the sounds gone. I have reinstalled ac97 and updated the driversbut still no sound. The device manager says everything is working but control panel sound tab is all grey and blank (I cannot access volume control or anything to do with sounds.)
I then tried to go into BIOS to see if audio is disabled, but I cant find that option in BIOS (its very limited, only password change and disk drive option, unless im doing it wrong) Any help would be great ,and sorry I dont know the little details about the laptop (processor etc)

Can you please post more details of the laptop, model number etc.
Did you download the drivers from Packard Bell or from another web site? Have you got a manual to see if there is a hot key for turning the sound on/off? You could try deleting all the sound drivers, by going into Device Manager and removing everything under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, then let Windows try to find them again on boot up. Which Operating System are you running, XP or Vista? |

go back into device manager right click on your sound and audo driver and uninstall it, then restart the system xp should pick it up and reinstall it for you, if by chance xp doesnt find the driver point to where ever you saved it

sounds like you could be missing the midi playback
go to control panel>sound and audio then click the audio tab, you should have a default device for each of these |

You can also go to device manager and expend the (Sound, Video & Game Controllers) and see if there is any yellow (!) if there is you double click on that and see if that can update the driver for you or even roll back the driver since you had it installed before.
