Basically Im wanting a netbook to cut down on electricity costs. I only really use the PC to browse the net anyway and if I need the PC for stuff like photoshop(rarely) I guess I could just log in
Anyway, in another thread I said I really value battery life. Am I right in thinking the higher the battery life, the more efficient the laptop is, the cheaper the bill(Hey it could only be a 5/6W difference but every little helps) The thing I think about most when buying a product is how cheap is it to run. So thats why Im not so sure on which netbook to buy(even if I only save a few pennies on the bill )So all in all, Im looking for a netbook with the same/similar spec that costs next to nothing to run |

the asus seems to be alot more expensive than the acer, even if you bought a 9 cell battery for it
9 CELL 7800mAh BLUE BATTERY ACER ASPIRE ONE D150 AOD150 on eBay (end time 17-Jul-09 22:00:53 BST) guess it depends how your warranty theory plays out by the way, if you get an acer, you'll want a program called a1ctl, it means you can set the fan up to what speed you want, meaning when your doing simple browsing/downloading it will run silent, it will also stop hard drive clicks, changes clock speed etc Last edited by Jon007; 15-07-09 at 11:08 PM. |

The laptops dont have that much of a price difference. See eBay product Acer Aspire One and eBay product EEEPC 1000HE
With the battery that you linked, wont it take more time to charge than a standard one(costing more)? Seeing as it has a "higher power" Im really wanting a similar spec netbook, doesnt really matter about the brand so much and wanting something that costs the least to run EDIT: I see that the Asus EEEPC has an even higher power battery . If the PSU for the Acer is 30W and you get 3 hours out of it and the Asus is 40W but you get (up to) 9.5 hours out of it, then Id rather get the Asus EEE PC. How long does it take to charge your netbook?

wow, i only looked at the asus, as i paid 150 for acer linked above but with linux, guess theres not much difference in it, your best going for the asus then! not sure if they do it, but get a linux version if you can, then use an external drive to install windows

The linux ones have an appalling spec. Yes, I do use the PC mainly for the net but I would like to save some files as well, maybe play some games. I like civilisation type games, so a spec like this should do me quite fine
My thinking was to get a netbook and install linux myself on it EDIT: I take all that back. Ive just seen some linux ones on eBay. I know what I'll do. I'll go into comet and ask the people there which one costs the least to run (Not going to buy from them though )

the acer ones with linux i think they're the same spec but with 120GB hard drive, i've ran civilization, takes a while to load if you've got the cd image on the hard drive, but seems to run ok
yep, you could run linux on it, don't bother with the linpus that would come preinstalled, you can't do anything with it |

i was looking at that one myself, but realised you reffered to the 160GB model, its exactly the same in every way apart from that, so if your not going to use the extra 40GB, why not? the white battery may be cheaper too
guess it just depends if the extra 10W justifies the extra price compared to electricity, it is less power than an energy saving bulb, but can't find anything on the net what it equates to in pounds |

Actually Ive just seen this on eBay. The linux netbook, does anyone know how much power the PSU uses? I think the PSU for the other ones are 36W

I suppose the electricity price works out (Enter BD7 1BE)And I suppose I can just charge at night when Im not using it(Ive no idea what plan Im on, but the night charges seem a lot cheaper)
And even if we arent on any such package, then I suppose then it still worths the fact that the bundle is £100 cheaperAlso the postcode isnt mine just one that I know of, so no need to edit anything out Last edited by waqasahmed; 16-07-09 at 12:21 AM. |
