burning xbox 360 games+f/w upgrades

hi i'am not a total noob when it come's to 360 but the thing i'am stuck on is can i burn xbox games useing my hitachi xbox 360 drive i put it in so my pc picks it up i put a game in and it comes up but do i need any software if there is a tut out there that would be great thanks

you have to get hitachi into 0800 mode.as long as your hitachgi is visible in windows,which yyou have to have aynyway to flash hitachi,yoiu can get it to recognise most types of discs.unfortunately for ripping 360 games this is not the case.

if i aint mistaken hitachi cant be used for ripping 360 games only,samsung,benq and liteon.

when you flash a hitachi only certain lines of code in the firmware are changed,it is never fully overwritten.this is why hitachi cant be used if i am not mistaken,it cant take the firmware to enable it,even kreon have to be flashed to enable it,samsung,benq and liteon have it implimented and also have dedicated 0800 firmware.

You are correct Sal, you can only use Samsung/BenQ/Lite-On drives to rip games to your hard drive providing the drive has 0800 firmware flashed onto it. Kreon drives are just standard Samsung dual layer drives and Kreon is the special firmware which reads through both layers of the game disc - a standard dual layer DVD-ROM drive only reads the first layer hence when you put it in a PC, it comes up and asks you if you would like to play it as a video.
