Yes, live links are allowed, but not to any dodgy places, or to post spam, there are also some sites that have been censored, as you have just found out.

To all moderators am I allowed to do [url="http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/"] this [ /url] instead of just showing Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums - Powered by vBulletin ?

I was told off and Im quite confused as Ive been shortening links for a long time now. Ive always said something like click here and it would redirect to sometimes a link on the forums, but sometimes off the forums. I really am confused about this one

It is probably best to avoid using shortened links as we have to click on them to see where they go to, as we have to make sure that any links don't go to any sites that are deemed against the rules.

Eg

As a general rule, the only links we want to avoid are links to sites where illegal material may be hosted - ie, rapid share, etc.

Posting URLs to other sites is usually fine, and using the [url] command in the forums is fine as well - but better to post normal URLs rather than shortened URL services though, so that the source is clear, and avoid confusion.

I think there's been some general confusion about this, so hope this post helps.

If in doubt, wrap the [CODE] tag around the URL so we can see the full link
