as for middlesbrough Pure NTL if i have a 2mb mac and then use the config just by putting it in i will still have 2mb download so i have to do it the hard way and find a 20mb mac i guess hehe

@50pounds

I'm in Boro too. I've tried approx 50 macs and never get past 2mb.

Is there any way of knowing which is a 10 or 20mb mac?

cheers

does DHCP sniffer still give you the config names? or are they just blank as it seems the 20mb config still has a unique name its just a load of letters.cm I dont have it to hand right now but if you sniff macs using wireshark it will give you the config file name in the dhcp offer packets so if you install wireshark then start capturing and in the filter box type ip.dst==255.255.255.255 you should get a list of all the broadcast packets within there you can then look at the offer packets and check out the supplied bootfile you could then export the packet dump and then grep through for the 20mb boot file name giving you a list of 20mb macs. Il give it a go later when im back at home and give a quick write up if I get a chance.

If you don't get it m8 I wouldn't bother but if you want to try it download wireshark (its a free packet sniffer) and start capturing packets addressed to 255.255.255.255 included in these packets will be DHCP replies upon inspecting the replies you will deffinately be able to find the name of the specified boot file then if you export the captured packets you can grep through it and make it give you a list of all the macs that have a certain config assigned to it. When I have abit more time I will write a proper guide but I have my CCNA exam tomorrow so will be revising tonight
