Default Best way to reset the speed cap

Yellos,

I'm running in teesside area, and I'm still forcing a 20mb config no problem.

When I hit the speed cap I used to reboot modem and set it from the standard config to the business config cmbus-pkg3-nat-any.cm and vice versa if I needed to dl quickly.

However, from the 2 or 3 months ago when a lot of modems seemed to start going off, of the configs I tried I could never seem to get the other configs to work and only my current one....so I'm just wondering if theres any good methods to use now. At the moment my modem is using the cmreg-ntlhm120-rts22.cm

hmmm well that makes sense I suppose Though do you tend to change your ethernet mac too with smac each time, as a general rule of thumb I usually have when changing macs as diff macs on same nic would prob stand out more

i've got to admit, i dont always do that. i know i should but it doesnt really cause any probs

when i set one up and ge tit operational, after making sure that i have a 1hr lease time with it connected to the pc i take it out and then connect it to the router with a diff mac and it still gives me a week long lease

When I used to swap between the 2 configs.....I could change the config back literally a minute later and the mac was reset.

Don't have chance to try now as gotta head to bed (taking parents to airport in 5hrs ) but if jump from 1 mac to another, and then back to original one, would that also reset the cap too?

hmm, dont know the answer to that one, when it gets capped, change mac, when that one gets capped, change again

I'll give it a test tmw sometime - after all only takes an hour or whatever for the cap to kick in when at full pelt on the newsgroups

If turns out it doesnt reset on switchback.....then I have a spare modem, it'll be easier to just unplug one and plug t'other in when the time comes to switch....then just have half the period of caps at least.

hmmm theres a point too I wonder.....2 modems, with same mac, one unplugged, other plugged in......would the cap still be in effect...unsure but I think the cap is held on the modem itself and not the line

the headend assigns the cap.

when using a clone, the sub gets capped too

aah bugger goes that idea then

Might have to try a few other configs see if can find any others it seems to like. Last time I was checking was the period about 8weeks or so back when they kept going off every 30mins so maybe all settled now...hopefully the switching configs still works........tho its no easier than changing macs really (not counting to/not to spoof nic mac)

Hi im using M0t0r01a sb41OO with sigma and also trying to work around the annoying cap.

can anyone advise if the 'config swapping' method to reset cap jeopardises the current working 10mb mac im using? (i.e will it flag vms attention to that mac?

Has anyone any knowledge of any working scripts that could/will automatically flip your configs every hour and automate the swapping process? Would it be possible? Just a wild thought!

If so i think that would be pretty cool! If not... ah well!
