I recently reinstalled windows xp on my laptop and did a backup of all my files except i forgot to back up the files on my desktop which had the username and password for my ambit modem.

now i dont know what my username or password is

i read around somewhere that you need a 232 cable to get around it without having a password or username.

any help would be much appreciated.

yeah, you need max

you can use hyperterm or the console on ambitconfig to send the commands to reset the password and username.

check out the 'post telnet commands here' thread, its all in there

Oh can you reset the password? I thought that you would have to reflash.

it says to change it do this

cd /n/m
user_name <your desired username here>
password <your desired password here>
write

so if i put

cd /n/m
user_name ant16151189
password money
write

do i click write or do i write that with the text above lol.

I tell you the moral of the story there, thats one downside to pm'ing for help, you may not get all the best input or help out there! Ask on the forum and you get help from everyone as opposed to just one person!

you will need to reflash the modem mate as i forgot the password for mine once and could not get back on it so i had to reflash good i did tho got the new version of hax on there now

check The Layman's guide to flashing Ambit Cable Modems if your not to sure on how to flash modems

For a start, state whether it's the telnet user/pass or the gui user/pass.

Telnet user/pass can be changed via command, afaik, gui user/pass, cannot.
