blakey_8 says i don't have to remove the card if I want to continue using PVR functions (but should remove it if I intend to mod in future) and G77 says that if the card gets a hit then only a card with the correct IRD can get the PVR functions back.

The question is .. if I leave the card in the V+ box when I downgrade, who is right?

Mate i would not doubt anything G77 or Blakey_8 says , They both make valid points.

Blakey_8 is saying that should you want to mod this equipment in the future you must remove the card , The card holds vital information known as BK & IRD which is crucial for modding. When you leave or downgrade to a non subscription package the information on the card will be replaced ( HIT ) will false details.

G77 Point was should the card get hit , the box would become freeview only , you would have to write a card with the correct IRD to make it a freeview recorder

Thanks I really appreciate the advice. One final question. Does the card only get hit the once. i.e. at the time of the downgrade. If I pull it out for a day or so before and after the downgrade, will its contents remain intact after that when I put it back in?

Once the card is out mate , it should remain out untill you have retrieved the information you need , Don't stick it back in untill this is done
