Default No CI slot?

Hi, Im just wondering do the DM 500's not come with a CI slot as they have "built in cams" eg: softcam's? Then again not many of you people here that use CI slots probably dont have a DM 500S as it is a beginner receiver?. Also seeing as only Digi TV is left on cams and thats going secure soon, is there any real point of a CI slot then?

Many linux receivers also have CI slots, and card slots, but you get what you pay for.
The built in softcam is not the main selling point for linux receivers, including the Dreambox, connectivity and sharing is their main selling point.
Also the fact that they use open source software so that fellow enthusiasts can write software to use on these receivers.
You are correct that only Digi TV is currently available on general emulation, but who knows what the future holds.
It is however far more likely that anything new will first be available on a new Cam, or card, so the more flexible your setup the more options you have.
The Diablo 2.3 also has Canal Digitaal, 19E, well it did until a couple of days ago but now owners are awaiting a new underworld file.

Just wondering I read on the net somewhere that dreamboxes have multicrpyt readers built in, so cant I just program a card to get Digi TV and Canal Digital?

There are dreambox patches about for Digi on 1w, If you mean Canal Digital Scandinavia on 1w, they are now encrypted in Conax cas7 and is unpatchable. If you mean Canal Digitaal NL on 19e, thats down at the moment it could be for good, or it could come back but I haven't seen a dreambox patch about for it.

Hmmm.. seeing as though the future of cams is pretty bleak, then Im wondering, with official cards can I just insert them into my receiver(and some technical jiggery) and locate the correct satellite? (Im thinking of cardsharing but wanting to card share something like an art card first as its the cheapest )
