Default sky versus freeview versus free to air ???

Hi, I need some advice.....we currently pay a subscription to sky for TV package in lounge and have freeview in bedrooms. My son tells me that we should ditch both of these and have free to air in all rooms. Anyone tell me the pros and cons? Jackie

Do you still want to watch the Sky subscription channels? Freeview is different to satellite, as you will need a good quality TV aerial (pressuming you are in a area that is served by Freeview) you will get around 40 odd channels. Freesat is the satellite service that the BBC and ITV launched for people that could not get Freeview or that did not want to subscribe to Sky. On Freesat you won't get a couple of the channels on Freeview as these channels such as Dave TV can only show their content with the UK - Satellite allows people in other countries to watch our TV.

However if you still want to watch scrambelled channels - you will need to pay Sky and have a Sky subscription.

Hi, thanks for thinking about the issue.

We do watch encrpted channels at minute, but am willing to watch less channels in exchange for no monthly bill (in lounge)

Am mostly thinking about this in bedrooms too, would it be worth doing there, or sticking with freeview, and read a few posts from others about having to know channel and satelite etc... how complicated is it to actually use day-to-day?

An easy way of finding out what you can put up with without subscription is to take out your Sky card from the Sky Box. The channels that remain plus a few others will be STILL available for you to watch legally without subscribing to Sky. You also have the option of continuing to use your Sky box to watch them or to buy a freesat box (SD/HD/HDR) --- which avoids trawling through the unavailable subscription channels.
